Review and Re-design of local community and hospital service
We hope that you are aware that there are ongoing discussions with local people regarding the longer term future of both hospitals in the valley. This is due to the physical condition of the buildings which are not suitable to meet the longer term needs of future services. But also to reflect integration of health and social cares services and move to develop more community based services
While there are no issues with the current level of care or services it is necessary to plan for the future. This work is now underway. Please note no changes to the location of your local health centre are being considered.
Badenoch and Strathspey Development Group
Through the Badenoch and Strathspey Development Group, options for the future, model of service across Badenoch and Strathspey are being developed. The Group has wide involvement including local Elected Members, Community, Cairngorm National Park Authority, local groups, patients and cares. There are also local doctors, nurses and other clinical staff. The Group is chaired by Nigel Small, NHS Highland’s Director of Operations for South and Mid-Highland.
The Clinical Lead for the review is Dr Boyd Peters – a GP based at Grantown – but with responsibility for providing leadership across Badenoch & Strathspey. Dr Peter’s message to local people is:
"It is really important that we look at all elements of health and social care services which can be delivered in the area: at home, in the community as well as what the future shape of hospital services needs to be. The importance of having a consensus for a shared vision is going to be really important".
Possible Options for the Future
The next key stage will be to carry out an options appraisal exercise to identify a preferred option(s) which meets necessary criteria such as safe, accessible, affordable and consistent with local and national strategy and guidance. As the changes being looked at are likely to be considered as major service change formal public consultation will be required.
A formal three month public consultation on a preferred option(s) is likely to take place early next year (2014).
